Sacred Heart School - Tuition Assistance Opportunities

M.L.T.F. (Monsignor Lafferty Tuition Foundation): M.L.T.F. is our largest, need-based scholarship opportunity.  Enrolled school families are required to apply by April 1st to be considered for this award.  New families can apply in the Fall when they register.  However, it is worth your time to complete the application early and submit it by the April 1st deadline if you believe your child(ren) will attend Sacred Heart the following school year.  Awards tend to be higher in the Spring than in the Fall.

Children's Rosary: On the second Wednesday of each month we pray the rosary in the church at 6:45 pm.  We have a donor who highly believes in Catholic Education and praying the rosary.  As a result, this becomes a financial award for families who attend.  There are two award amounts (Faithful Attendee & Attendee).  The students who attend faithfully (at least 8 of the 12 rosaries) will receive a much higher financial award.  Awards are granted in April.

Local Scholarship: We have several donors who value Catholic Education and donate to fund this scholarship opportunity.  This scholarship is awarded each summer after the MLTF awards come out.  To receive this award, you must apply for MLTF.   You are eligible to apply for Local Scholarship even if you do not meet the criteria for MLTF.

Scrip: Scrip is a gift card fundraising opportunity our school participates in.  This is how it works: you purchase everyday gift cards from our school (ex. Fareway, HyVee, Target, Walmart, Casey's, etc.) for the value on the card.  For example, a $100 Fareway gift card is worth $100 and you buy it for $100.  Fareway sells the $100 card to our school for $97.  The $3 is donated to our school.  Half of all money earned through your gift card purchases is credited to your child’s tuition account in the fall.  The other half goes directly to our school to be used for a variety of needs.

Referral Program: Enrolled Sacred Heart School families that refer a new student to Sacred Heart will receive a $100 tuition credit or $100 in Scrip in January of the school year that the new student enrolled.  The referring family must indicate that they were referred by you.

IA 529: College Savings Iowa is a 529 plan, which is a tax-advantaged program intended to help an individual or a family pay for education costs. Just about anybody can open a 529 account—parents, grandparents, relatives, or friends.  Your 529 account can be used to pay for qualified education expenses at any eligible educational institution, including: K-12 religious institutions (tuition only).  Sacred Heart meets this criterion.
